Market Hall, Old Amersham, Bucks
Dominating the centre of Old Amersham is the 17th Century Market Hall. It was built in 1682 and was given to the Town by the Drake family. The market was held
underneath and the trade guild meetings in the room above. The building is still in use with various stalls often under the hall and the rooms above used for
public and social gatherings. The Market Hall is today managed by the Amersham Town Council.
EHS Energy Saver
Members of the Amersham Town Council were invited to visit The Phoenix Centre in Sandwich, Kent (more info). They were impressed with the air source heat pumps EHS had installed,
and contacted EHS to see if they could be installed in the Market Hall. We found that the building did not have the level of insulation a modern building has. Of further
concern were the large single pane casement windows. However we did propose a solution, which the council staff took to the planning departmant as the hall is grade II listed.
Consent to install was granted in August 2008, and the units were installed shortly after this. The building is now comfortably warm.
Below an extract from the council's quarterly newsletter, covering our installation of the units.
