TOR Leisure Centre Glastonbury Glastonbury's Tor Leisure provides a fully inclusive community centre with bowls and cricket clubs. Many new and increasingly popular activities take place on the grounds including Rounders, Frisbee, associated tournaments, junior football, balloon take offs, 20/20 cricket and army cadet training sessions. Indoors the venue provides space for a variety of entertainments, club meetings and large social gatherings, with a Main Bar and various function rooms. More information can be found here Air source heat pumpMembers of the team at the TOR leisure centre have spent considerable time in Sweden, and has seen how popular Air source heat pumps are there. We had been looking at installing one of these at the centre for some years. We decided to test a unit the main bar area - this is a space of about 150 m2, which is used from 11am to 11pm most days. People come and go all the time opening doors making it difficult to heat. Further, the building is poorly insulated, with only single pane windows. Note we intend to renovate the centre in the near future and we will of course improve on the insulation.We did some searches in the Autumn of 2008 and found Environmental Heating Solutions, and deciced to go with them, as some of the staff were Swedish. We contacted them in late October and the unit was installed early in November. We have had some very cold days since then, and the unit has been excellent. The Centre has never been as warm as it is now, and the unit outperforms the traditional heating solution by a wide margin.
